Margaret Tack, age 94, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Garrels) Sluiter on February 16, 1909, Emdem, Germany. She migrated with her family as a small child to the United States. She received her education from a country school near Allison, Iowa. On December 25, 1934, Margaret Sluiter was united in marriage with Harvey Tack in Kansas City, Missouri. They made their home and farmed near Ackley, Iowa. They later moved and farmed north of Aplington until 1970, when they retired and moved to Aplington. Margaret accepted Christ as her personal Savior on Oct 18, 1929, and received her assurance through Job 19:25 “I know my Redeemer liveth.” and hugged her Bible and ran upstairs. She enjoyed being in fellowship with the Christians at the Hitesville Gospel Hall, where she enjoyed serving the Lord. Margaret enjoyed embroidery, gardening, flowers, cooking and baking. Margaret died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Tack on May 22, 1992; her parents; one sister, Anna Spieker; and three brothers, Adolph, Henry and Grant Sluiter. Margaret is survived by one brother, Warner (Elizabeth) Sluiter of Parkersburg, Iowa; two sisters, Bena Walters of Allison, Iowa and Fannie Leerhoff of Parkersburg, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Tack of Grundy Center, Iowa and Kenneth (Beulah) Tack of Wellsburg, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, LaVerne Tack of Wellsburg, Iowa. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at Hitesville Gospel Hall, rural Aplington, Iowa, with Mr. Robert Orr and Mr. Robert Orr officiating. Congregational Hymns were “Blessed Assurance,” “What Will It Be To Dwell Above” and “Safe In The Arms Of Jesus.” Ushers were Dallas Kluiter and LaVern Kluiter. Casketbearers were Royce Tack, Burdeen Sluiter, Boyd Meyer, Jake Walters, Kendall Tack, and Randall Sluiter. Flower Committee was Betty Williams and Lois Asche. Interment was in Hitesville Cemetery, rural Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
