Darlene Rowan, age 70, of Aplington, Iowa, was born July 7, 1933, the daughter of Bert and Tena Rotgers Noble in Ackley, Iowa. She graduated from Ackley High School in 1951. Darlene was employed at S&S Groceries for five years. She was formerly employed at the Presbyterian Village in housekeeping until she retired due to failing health. She was an active fan of Aplington-Parkersburg sports and had enjoyed golfing in her younger years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Aplington. Darlene died Monday, November 17, 2003 at Presbyterian Village, Ackley, Iowa of Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was preceded in death by one son, Marlin Johns and her parents, Bert and Tena. She is survived by one son Patrick Rowan, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Denice (Larry) Jelinek, Evansdale, Iowa and Patricia Johns, Ely, Iowa; five grandchildren; three brothers, Gene (Edyie) Noble, Evansdale, Iowa; Don (Darla) Noble, Aplington, Iowa and Gary (Linda) Noble, Aplington, Iowa; and a special friend, Arlene Meyer, Aplington, Iowa. Funeral Services were held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, Iowa, with Rev. Greg Smith and Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. The organist was Lenee’ Pollock and the congregational hymns where “Amazing Grace,” “Sweet By and By” and “Safe In The Arms of Jesus.” The Casketbearers where Brad Noble, Jeff Noble, Rick Noble, Lance Noble, Brian Noble, and Scott Sandell. Burial was in the Oak Wood Cemetery in Ackley, Iowa. Memorial way be directed to the family of Darlene Rowan. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington was in charge of arrangements.
