obit 1921 Green Butler County Iowa

Catherine Doyle-McGee was born in Ferguson Falls, Ontario, Canada, on November 17, 1842, and departed this life on December 14, 1921, at the age of 79 years and 27 days. On Feb. 4, 1861, she was united in marriage to John G. McGee in Canada, shortly after they located to Mansfield, Ohio, where Mr. McGee engaged in business as a shoemaker. In the fall of 1869, they came to Iowa and settled in Butler Center, a small village which at the time, was the county seat of Butler County. He purchased some land here and also carried on his shoemaking trade which was quite an extensive business in those days.

In the spring of 1901, they moved to Allison and Mr. McGee, in company with his son, Franklin, opened a harness shop and shoe repair business. In 1903, Mr. MGee's health began to fail and passed away on June 29, 1903, this causing a severe blow to his ever kind and faithful wife. She carried the burden without complaint however, and enjoyed good health until the past year when her health and strength began to weaken owing to her advanced years.

Mrs. Catherine Doyle-McGee was a kind mother to her children and possed those social and moral qualities that go to make friends. She was both affable and amiable, being kind to her neighbors and devoted to her home and loved ones, and quite often would go beyond her strength in administering to their needs.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:00 O'Clock at the Catholic Church of which she was a true and faithful member, being conducted by Father McKinley and interment was made in the Allison Cemetery. She leaves to mourn her departure, seven sons; Edmund, Charles, Joseph of Los Angeles, CA; Robert of Bakersfield, CA; and John, Franklin and Lambert of Allison; two died at an early age, one daughter and one son ;Mary Matilda and Charles. She is also survived by three sisters;

Mrs. Elizabeth Doyle-McMahon, and Miss Teresa Doyle of Green, IA; Mrs. Euphemia Doyle-Crosy of Collins, IA; and two brothers, Robert, of DeLand, FL;, and Peter of Waterloo, IA. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with a large number of friends are left to mourn her departure.

In Loving Rememberance of Catherine Doyle-McGee:

"A precious one from us has gone

A voice we loved is still

A place is vacant in our home

Which never can be filled

God in His wisdom has recalled

The boon His love has given

And though the body moulders here

The soul is safe in Heaven."
