April 30, 1916 - March 23, 2012

Storm Lake, Iowa

Victor “Vic” Bartels, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died March 23, 2012, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Victor Fred Bartels was born April 30, 1916, in Tobias, Nebraska, the son of Herman W. and Marie (Schweer) Bartels. On May 21, 1916, Vic was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Tobias where he was later confirmed on April 13, 1930. Growing up, he attended school at Zion Lutheran in Tobias.

On February 20, 1944, Vic married Mathilda “Tillie” Lullmann at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake.

Although Vic loved farming, he retired in December of 1969 and moved to Storm Lake where he became a jack of all trades working at Wunder Tire, Bomgaars Supply, John Deere, Storm Lake Tank and Silo, Klein Electric, Torch Chemical, and Norm’s Livestock and Supply.

Vic enjoyed traveling with his wife, Tillie, especially to Arizona in the winter. He was an avid Minnesota Twins Baseball fan. He also loved his family and treasured spending time with them.

Three men that influenced Vic the most throughout his life were his father-in-law, John Lullmann, who impressed on him the importance of religion, and O.J. Grau and Louis Madision, who taught him the basics of economics; however, Vic often mentioned that without God nothing would have worked.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters-in-law: Anna Hogrefe and Neoma Bartels, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Norma (Arnold) Otto and Edna Rebhuhn, of Albert City, Iowa; in addition to nineteen nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and many friends.

Vic was preceded in death by his wife, Mathilda “Tillie” Bartels; his parents, Herman W. and Marie Bartels; his parents-in-law, John and Martha Lullmann; his brother, Eldo Bartels; his sisters, Gertrude and Mildred Bartels; his sisters-in-law: Hilda Hogrefe, Lea Kreutz, and Alura Lullmann; and his brothers-in-law: John Lullmann, Jr., Albert and Martin Hogrefe, Fred Kreutz, and Raymond Rebhuhn.
