January 2, 1927 - March 10, 2011

Idris Burow, age 84, of Albert City, Iowa, died March 10, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

One of the six children of Alwin and Olive (Swanson) Anderson, Idris Evelyn Anderson was born in Laurel, Nebraska, on January 2, 1927. The family lived on a farm near Laurel, Nebraska, and times were tough during the Depression in the early 1930’s. Olive died at an early age in 1936 and Alwin was left to raise five children ages five to fifteen.

A graduate of the Concord, Nebraska, High School, Idris continued her education at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, for two years.

On October 8, 1955, Idris was united in marriage to Rueben Burow at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. They spent their married lifes in the Albert City where Rueben worked for the Buena Vista County Road Maintenance Department and Idris served as a valued administrative assistant and Secretary of the School Board for the Albert City – Truesdale Community Schools for 24 years. She had also served as a church secretary for several years. In 1991, Idris received recognition from the State of Iowa House of Representatives for her service to the school.

Idris’ family was the focal point of her life. She loved her family very much and especially enjoyed following the interests and activities of her only grandson, Jason. She also took great interest in her extended family, and they appreciated her special interest in family genealogy.

Idris was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church and will be remembered as an avid reader.

In retirement, Idris and Rueben spent several winters in Weslaco, Texas, where they enjoyed joining the other “Winter Texans” as well as welcoming holiday visits from Randy, Judy and Jason.

In recent years, Idris lived at the Countryside Living Apartments where she enjoyed playing games and working on puzzles with the other residents.

Idris’ life is honored and cherished by her family which includes her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Judy Burow, of Spring, Texas; her grandson, Jason Burow, of Spring, Texas; her sister, Delores Blomberg, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rueben; her parents; a sister, Opal, who died in infancy; and three brothers: Lawrence, Art, and Ole.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Visitation will take place Monday, March 14, 2011, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present the entire time. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
