Agnes C. Ness, age 99, of Elk Point, South Dakota, formerly of Sioux Rapids, died on Friday, July 9, 2004, at the Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Agnes Catherine Carrigan Ness, daughter of Edward and Litta Bernice Thompson Carrigton, was born August 26, 1904, in Curlew. Her parents moved to Aryshire in 1908 where they owned a restaurant and later a hotel. Agnes graduated from the Silver Lake Consolidated High School with the class of 1924.

Agnes married Tennis D. Ness and lived in Sioux Rapids where their son, Andrew Michael Ness, grew up. In 1987, Agnes moved to Jefferson, South Dakota, where she lived with her son, daughter-in-law, Mary, and grandson. In 1999, she moved to the Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tennis Ness; and her half sisters, Hazel Buchacker, Loomis Johnson, Gladys Buchacker Froh; and sister, Irene Carrigan Daily.

She is survived by her son, Andrew, and his wife, Mary; her granddaughter, Angela Ness Martin; and her grandson, John Ness.

Funeral Services for Agnes C. Ness were held Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Sioux Rapids with Reverend John Cain officiating. Burial was in the Aryshire Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.
