April 5, 1923 - July 21, 2004

Ila L. Anderson, age 81, of Albert City, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.

Ila Louise Carlson was born April 5, 1923, to Henning and Esther Carlson on a farm northeast of Albert City. She attended Pleasant View country school and graduated from Albert City High School in 1940. In 1942, Ila graduated from Buena Vista College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education.

On May 29, 1943, Ila was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Anderson. To this union, five children were born: Linda, James, Sarah, Joni and Jon.

Ila taught country school in Iowa and Nebraska. Later, she owned and operated Albert City Floral for many years. After selling the flower shop, she worked at Hoffman's Flower and Candle Shop in Storm Lake.

Ila enjoyed arranging flowers, baking, cleaning and entertaining family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially loved Grandma Ila's rye bread, cinnamon bread and other baked goods.

Ila, a member of Albert City Evangelical Free Church, trusted in Christ as her personal Savior at a young age.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda (Jerome) Kindwall, of Albert City and their children: Jeff (Becky) Kindwall and Lisa (Jeff) Grossnickle; her son, James (Sue) Anderson, of Marion, and their children: Chris (Eileen) Hodgson, Eric (Cheryl) Hodgson and Allison Rudig; her daughter, Sarah (Scott) Hardie of Marengo, and their children: Josh, Jacci and Adam; her daughter, Joni (Jeff) King, of Ames, and their children: Jacob, Jessica and Jenna; her son, Jon (Betty) Anderson, of Urbandale, and their children: Tyler, Julia, Myles and Annalee; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Annette Anderson; and many other relatives and friends.

Ila was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents, Henning and Esther Carlson; three brothers: Leonard, Eldon and Morris; and three sisters: Mabel Fredrickson, Phoebe Olson and Ethel Bloom.

Funeral Services for Ila Anderson were held at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2004, with Pastor John Herman officiating. Burial was in the Fairfield Township Cemetery. The Sliefert-Asmus Funeral Home in Albert City was in charge of the arrangements.
