Hilda Brummer, age 88, of Storm Lake, died Friday, January 18, 2002, at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids following a lengthy illness.
Hilda Mary Hogrefe was born March 23, 1913, in Buena Vista County, the daughter of John and Amanda (Hartje) Hogrefe. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in 1927.
She married Arvin F. Brummer on January 29, 1937, at St. John's Church of Christ rural Newell. The couple farmed in Lincoln Township. Arvin died on December 6, 1984.
She was a member of St. John's Church of Christ. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, flower and vegetable gardening and spending time with her family.
Hilda is survived by a son Leonard Brummer and his wife Margaret, Storm Lake; a daughter Bernice Stern and her husband Merlyn, Storm Lake; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dean and Sue Brummer, Teresa and John Ingwersen, Kent and Dee Stern, Curtis and Annette Stern and Doyle and Jody Stern; six great grandchildren; Jesse and Bill Ingwersen and Macayla, Jonathan, Andrew and Jacob Stern.
Also surviving are three sisters; Edna Brummer, Newell, Lilly Sievers and her husband, Orville, Newell, Mae Zeman and her husband, Emery, Storm Lake, a brother Elmer Hogrefe and his wife, Delores, Lowell, Arkansas, three sisters-in-law; Alma Hogrefe, Albert City, Viola Brummer and Gretel Brummer, Storm Lake, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by a brother, Emil Hogrefe.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 21, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Church of Christ, rural Newell, with Reverend John Pinkerman officiating. Burial was in St. John's Church Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
