Lorraine Bloom - Aug. 3, 1915 - Dec. 7, 2007

Lorraine Bloom, age 92, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Friday, December 7, 2007, at the Pleasant View Home at Albert City.

Lillian Ethel Lorraine Loving, the daughter of Elmer and Esther (Peterson) Loving, was born August 3, 1915, near Albert City, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm with her brothers, Elwood and Jerome. Lorraine was baptized in January of 1916 at the Albert City Covenant Church. She was confirmed on April 21, 1929, and became a member of the Covenant Church on November 29, 1931. She briefly attended the country school nearby her home and then attended school in Albert City where she graduated from high school in 1931. Lorraine continued her education at Buena Vista College for two years and obtained her teaching certificate. Lorraine also took additional course work one summer in Boulder, Colorado. She taught third grade in the nearby communities of Havelock and Pomeroy for a total of six years.

On March 3, 1941, Lorraine was united in marriage to Harold Bloom of Albert City in her parents’ home on their farm near Albert City. Lorraine and Harold were blessed with three daughters: Alice, Ione and Elaine.

In addition to caring for her home and family, Lorraine was an active member of the Covenant Church of Albert City where she served in various capacities as long as she was able. Lorraine was also an active member of the Albert City Historical Society. Both Lorraine and Harold had many family members in the area so there were often family functions to host or attend as well.

For approximately thirty years, Lorraine and Harold enjoyed wintering in the McAllen, Texas, area. During the 1990’s, they spent their time in Biblesville where they had purchased a home. In recent years, Lorraine became incapacitated with Alzheimer’s disease and was admitted to the Pleasant View Nursing Home in November of 2001 where she remained a resident until the time of her death.

Those who will always cherish her memory include her family: Alice and Keith Johnson of Marquette, Michigan; Ione and Brian Linke of Bethesda, Maryland; and Elaine and James Ahlberg of Rochelle, Illinois; seven grandsons: Christopher and Becky Johnson of Albert City; Andrew Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Michael and Kelli Linke of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Alexander Linke and Alarich Linke, both of Bethesda, Maryland; Matthew and Megan Ahlberg of Eagen, Minnesota; and Erik Ahlberg of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; four great-grandchildren: Hannah and Shelby Johnson, Holden Linke, and Cassidy Ahlberg; her brother and sister-in-law, Elwood and Verna Loving of Albert City; her sister-in-law, Norma Loving of Albert City; other relatives and many friends.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Esther Loving in 1970 and 1981; her brother, Jerome Loving in October of 2000; and her husband, Harold, on April 13, 2005.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bloom will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2007, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present.
