Harold P. Padgett - Aug. 6, 1911 - Nov. 30, 2007

Harold P. Padgett, age 96, of Marathon, Iowa, died Friday, November 30, 2007, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Harold Percy Padgett, the son of Percy and Grace (Gopperton) Padgett, was born at Pasadena, California, on August 6, 1911. He lived his youth and received his education in Pasadena, graduating from Muyr Tech High School. On July 16, 1943, Harold was inducted into the United States Navy in Los Angeles, California. He proudly served his country during World War II and was stationed on the USS Vincennes. Harold was honorably discharged from active duty on October 6, 1945, at San Pedro, California.

Harold was united in marriage to Charlotte Hasch at Pasadena, California, on September 10, 1937. Following their marriage, Harold and Charlotte resided in San Bernadino, California, where Harold was a baker and they owned and operated the Pastry Pantry from 1945 to 1947. Harold especially enjoyed baking cakes. After his baking career, he became employed with the United States Post Office as a postal carrier. In 1966, they moved to Crestline, California, where they made their home for the next 22 years. Harold and Charlotte moved to Page, Arizona, in 1988, then to ShowLow, Arizona, and on August 5, 1998, they came to Marathon, Iowa, where they have lived ever since.

Years ago, Harold received a train set as a gift and that had developed into a hobby of his. Harold was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Marathon. He will be remembered as a man of faith.

Those who will always cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 70 years, Charlotte, of Marathon, Iowa; his brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Frances Padgett of Prescott, Arizona; other relatives, neighbors, and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Freddie and two sisters, Josephine and Grace.

Memorial services for Mr. Padgett will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007, at the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon with Pastors Gene Enger and Ivor Reuter officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Marathon is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the start of services on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Marathon United Pentecostal Church Memorial Fund.
