Paul H. Olson - Jan. 5, 1931 - Dec. 17, 2007

Paul H. Olson, age 76, of Albert City, Iowa, died Monday, December 17, 2007, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Paul Howard Olson, the son of Carl and Amy (Peterson) Olson, was born at Albert City, Iowa, on January 5, 1931. Paul was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. He lived his youth and received his education at Albert City, graduating from the Albert City High School. Paul served his country in the United States Air Force for one year and then was honorably discharged due to medical reasons. He then worked for a newspaper at Albert City, Iowa.

Paul was united in marriage to Anna Marie Paulson in the Evangelical Covenant Church at Albert City on September 2, 1956. The couple was blessed with two sons, David and John.

Paul’s professional career was dedicated to the newspaper and printing industry. Following their marriage, the Olsons resided at Odebolt where Paul worked for the Odebolt Chronicle. They then moved to Albert City and Paul worked for the Albert City Appeal. Paul and his family next resided in Swea City where he served as editor of the Swea City Herald. The family came to Laurens, Iowa, where Paul was shop foreman for the Laurens Sun. Paul returned to Albert City where he was the editor of the Albert City Appeal. Paul’s final business venture was at Spirit Lake, Iowa, where he owned and operated his own commercial printing business. He and Anna Marie remained in Albert City for their retirement years.

Paul attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. His special interests included fishing, reading, doing crossword puzzles and woodworking. In their retirement, Paul and Anna Marie enjoyed traveling and especially treasured visits to see their children and grandchildren.

Paul’s memory will be cherished by his family: his wife, Anna Marie, of Albert City, Iowa; his son, David Olson of Kansas City, Kansas; his son, John and wife Susan Olson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Cameron, Jessica, and Adam; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jan Olson of Arlington Heights, Illinois; his sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Loren Hechtner of Sac City, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Warren.

Funeral services for Mr. Olson will be held on Friday, December 21, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in Fairfield Township Cemetery at Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 20, 2007, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present during visitation hours.
