Adelia Roberts - Feb. 17, 1915 - Jan. 16, 2010

Adelia Roberts, age 94, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

Adelia Almedia Anderson, the daughter of Carl and Christina (Englund) Anderson, was born on a farm east of Albert City on February 17, 1915. She lived her youth and received her education in Albert City, graduating from the Albert City Consolidated High School. Adelia was confirmed at the Ljunghed Lutheran Church in Albert City in 1928 (or 1929).

On May 5, 1934, Adelia was united in marriage to George Walter Roberts in Fonda, Iowa. Together this couple was blessed with three children: James Alfred, Thomas Frederic, and Catherine Helen. George and Adelia’s married lifetime was dedicated to their farming vocation. They moved from their farm into Albert City in 1972. Adelia and George cherished the 61 years of marriage they celebrated together. Following George’s death on June 8, 1995, Adelia continued to live in their home in Albert City.
The last several years, she made her home at the Pleasant View Home.

Adelia was loved by everyone and she was a very supportive, caring, and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality and freely shared that gift by entertaining her family and friends. Adelia received much enjoyment from helping others. Adelia was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City and participated in many of the church circles. She was also a member of the Happy Hour Club and was a founding member of the Albert City Federated Womens’ Club. Adelia was an avid reader and also did beautiful handwork that included needle point, crocheting, knitting, and in later years, counted cross stitch. She kept her mind alert by doing crossword puzzles and she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune each evening.

Adelia is lovingly remembered by her children: James (Elinor) Roberts of Albert City, Iowa; Thomas Roberts of Albert City, Iowa; Catherine (Les) Abrams of Jefferson City, Missouri; her grandchildren: Sarah Roberts; Christina (Gary) Balder; Philip (Mary) Roberts; Randy (Val) Roberts; Rhonda (Jerry) Russell; Bryce (Alicia) Roberts; Robbie (Dan) Howe; 11 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Karen Kay Roberts; and 12 siblings: Arvid, Alma, Florence, Oscar “Ossie”, Irene, Ann, Theodore “Ted”, Martin, Andrew, Clifford “Kip”, Mildred Evangeline “Bobbie” and Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert City, Iowa. Interment will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
