Elaine Heard, age 78, of Storm Lake died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Country View Nursing Home in Waterloo after a five-year battle with myeloma.
Elaine was born June 21, 1925, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Rosella (Frank) Jepson. She graduated from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1942.
She worked for the Union Pacific/Milwaukee Railroad as a depot agent, for J. C. Penney Company, for Buena Vista University, for the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce Office and in the office of IBP in Storm Lake.
She was united in marriage to Perry Heard on December 24, 1945, in Hawarden. The couple moved from Rembrandt to Storm Lake in 1951. He died on March 29, 1983.
Elaine was an active member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, PTA, Girl Scouts, Order of Eastern Star, Wa-Tan-Ye, ICCA and served as secretary for the Storm Lake Centennial Committee from 1971-1973.
She is survived by her daughter Kathryn E. Zimmer of Waterloo and numerous extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Anne Louise Heard on November 3, 1999, by twin granddaughters on May 26, 1972, and by her sister, Lorna Sinkey.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell and Reverend Charles Downing officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be given to the American Cancer Society with gifts designated for myeloma research.
Friends may call at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. where the family will be present. There will be an Order of Eastern Star Memorial Service at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
