Leland Howard Radke, age 88, of Alta, Iowa, died on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

A son of Fred and Marie (Winterhof) Radke, Leland was born on December 14, 1928, in Galva, Iowa. Confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa, he attended school in Hanover as well. On December 8, 1957, he married JoAnn F. Kent at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Brian, Lori, Tim, and Nancy.

The founder and owner of the Alta Implement Company, Leland dedicated many years to serving his customers. Active in the Alta community, he served at one time on the Alta City Council. A long-time member of the Alta Country Club, he, also, participated in its governance, and he loved to golf. In addition, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren and the neighbor kids to school for many years, and he liked singing in the Radke Barbershop Quartet. Most of all, however, Leland loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Brian (Lisa Herr) Radke, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lori (Steve) Elliott, of Waukee, Iowa, Tim (Paula) Radke, of Alta, Iowa, and Nancy (Gary) Snyder, of Alta, Iowa; his grandchildren: Erin and Lee Radke, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Dexter, Dylan, and Alexis Herr, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kyle Elliott, of Lakewood, Colorado; Ryan Elliott, of Waukee, Iowa; Nick and Ryan Radke, of Alta, Iowa; Kelsi, Jenna, and Alex Snyder, also of Alta, Iowa; his brother, Donald (Darlene) Radke; his sister-in-law, Margaret Radke; and his brother-in-law, Harry Lundin; as well as extended family members and friends. Leland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, JoAnn, in 2014; his brothers: Harold (Vera), Ervin (Alice), Orville (Lola), Merle (Ruth), Wayne, and Darrell Radke; and his sisters: Darlene Lundin and Esther (Martin) Einspahr.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 31, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will take place Sunday, July 30, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. Arrangements are with the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta.
