Darlene Louise Kruse, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at her home in Storm Lake.

Darlene, a daughter of August W. and Dorathea (Buchholz) Kruse, was born on March 21, 1933, at Swallom Hospital in Storm Lake. Baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake on April 14, 1933, and confirmed there as well on April 14, 1946, she remained a very active lifelong member.

Growing up, she attended Lincoln #8 country school for two years and then Lincoln Lee for two more years before enrolling at Zion Lutheran Parochial School for four years. She, then, attended Albert City High School, graduating with the class if 1951. Next, she worked for JC Penny as a bookkeeper from 1954 to 1995.

In her younger years, Darlene enjoyed bowling, winning trophies for the ladies’ doubles and women’s singles league. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She, also, loved playing cards. Moreover, she valued her family and treasured the time she could spend with them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers, Don (Carol) Kruse, of Rembrandt, Iowa, and Wayne (Marian) Kruse, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her sister-in-law, Janice Kruse, of Albert City, Iowa; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, August and Dorathea, and her brother, Corwin Kruse.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, February 10, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
