Mary Ann Jensen
November 8, 1939 - January 21, 2017

Mary Ann Jensen, a daughter of August and Esther (Ericksen) Jensen, was born on November 8, 1939, at Holstein, Iowa. She attended school in Holstein until the middle of the sixth grade. Then, she transferred to school in Aurelia until the middle of her junior year, after which she attended and graduated from Alta High School in 1957.

She started working as a checker at Peterson’s Grocery and Dry Goods Store in Alta before becoming a secretary at the Alta School. Next, she worked at Christine’s Nursing Home in Alta, as a clerk at J. C. Penny’s, then for Iowa Power & Mid-American in Des Moines. Later, she moved to Sioux City to work for Mid-American. Mary Ann, then, relocated to Oregon where she managed the Beach House Clothing Stores before retiring to Aurelia where she worked at the Aurelia Golf Club.

Professionally, she joined the Data Processing Management Association. Personally, she became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, helped with the Luther League, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as the Church Librarian.

Mary Ann died on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia. Preceding Mary Ann in death were her parents and her brother-in-law, Vernon Rath. Survivors include her two brothers, Virgil, and his wife, Jean Jensen, of Kingsley, Iowa, and Roger, and his wife, Sylvia Jensen, of Sac City, Iowa; and a sister, Loretta Rath, of Aurelia; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services for Mary Ann Jensen, 77, of Aurelia, will be held Monday, January 23, 2017, at 11:00 A.M., at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurelia with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Galva East Cemetery, rural Galva. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service time at the church. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is overseeing the arrangements.
