May 16, 1935 ~ January 21, 2017 (age 81)

Glenn Hopper, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at his home in Storm Lake.

Herschel Glenn Hopper, a son of Ulys and Rutha (Hunter) Hopper, was born in Speedwell, Tennessee, on May 16, 1935. He lived his youth and received his education in Speedwell, graduating from Powell Valley High School in 1953. He continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. From November 12, 1954, until November 11, 1957, he, faithfully, served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corps. Baptized, he joined the Primitive Baptist Church in Loveland, Iowa.

On July 5, 1959, Glenn married Charlotte King in Manning, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with a son, Steven. Glenn and Charlotte lived in Storm Lake where, for many years, he worked as a gas truck driver for Farm Service. He, also, did some farming near Peterson, Iowa. In his later years, he worked as a funeral home assistant for Gary Sliefert at the Sliefert Funeral Homes.

In addition to his love of farming, Glenn’s other interests included fishing, enjoying the outdoors, gardening, solving puzzles, and hunting. His family, also, referred to him as a “dandelion hunter.” Glenn treasured his family, and he cherished the times he could spend with them.

Those left to honor and celebrate Glenn’s life include his wife, Charlotte, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Bonnie Hopper, of Newell, Iowa; two grandsons, David Hopper, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Joshua Hopper, of Hayti, South Dakota; his brothers: Emory (Jill) Hopper, of Randolph, Vermont, Jerry (Sharon) Hopper, of Maryville, Missouri, and Allen (Lois) Hopper, of Speedwell, Tennessee; and his sister, Sherrel Jo (Stephen) Earl, of Harrogate, Tennessee; as well as extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Therron.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
