Raymond W. Rath, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on May 2, 2016, at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.

Raymond, a son of Anthony “Tony” and Susanna (Stein) Rath, was born on February 26, 1930, in Portsmouth, Iowa. Growing up, he attended school in Rembrandt, Iowa, graduating in 1949.

Then, Ray enlisted in the Air Force. Stationed in Nevada at Nellis Air Force Base, he was trained as a mechanic and worked on plane engines during his enlistment. After his discharged from the Air Force, Ray went on to college, attending Buena Vista before graduating from Brookings, South Dakota, with a degree in agriculture. Ray was also a member of the AMVETS in Storm Lake.

Ray enjoyed the outdoors and would spend his free time fishing, hunting, and trapping. Even in his work, he chose a job that allowed him to be outdoors repairing small engines on boats and lawn mowers. Although Ray never married and had a family, he enjoyed spending time with his brothers, sister, and their children. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his brothers: Robert Rath, of Stewartville, Minnesota, Bernard Rath, of Racine, Minnesota, Phillip Rath, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Elmer (Donna) Rath, of Cedar Park, Texas; his sister, Lucille Fitzsenry, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Mary Rath, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; three nephews; and ten nieces; as well as extended family members and friends.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Susanna Rath; his maternal grandparents: Nick and Anna Stein; his paternal grandparents: Joseph and Rehilda Rath; his brothers: Melvin, Mike, and Walter Rath; his brother-in-law, Roy Fitzsenry; his sisters-in-law: Janica Rath, Lillian Rath, and Shirley Rath; his nephew, Walter Rath, Jr.; and two nieces: Linda Anderson and Marlys Grieme.
