August 23, 1960 - November 10, 2015

Sandra "Sandy" Sorensen, age 55, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Sandy Jean Hallengren was born on August 23, 1960, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Norris Alfred and Phyllis (Spooner) Hallengren. Growing up, she attended school in both Storm Lake and Laurens, Iowa. She married Rick Sorensen, but no children were born to this union.

Sandy worked at the Highway 3 & 71 Sparky's for ten years before transferring to the Newell Sparky's to become the store manager. She held this position until her health forced her to retire in July of 2015.

In 1995, Sandy met the love of her life, Terry Smith, of Storm Lake. They have loved, cherished, and stood by each other for the past twenty years. They made their first home in eastern rural Rembrandt before selling the property and purchasing a small acreage south of Storm Lake. In due course, they acquired a small menagerie of chickens, goats, and ducks, which they cared for jointly.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Norris Hallengren; her step-father, Jack Toiberg; her sister, Merry Haroldson; her brothers-in-law, Thomas Elliott and Dennis Weiland; and her niece, Tammy Geist.

Sandy is survived by Terry Smith; her mother, Phillis Hallengren Toiberg; her sisters, Sherille Elliott, Carol (Fred) Anderson, Patty Weiland, Nora (Terry) Suter, and Kim Hickman; her daughter, Amber Manson (Brian Kelley), her son, Jessie Sorensen (Kristina Garcia); her grandchildren: Zeak, Sophia, Chevy, Jase, Gaje, Zackariah, and Lexus.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Little Sioux Valley Cemetery in Rembrandt. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
