October 17, 1938 - January 8, 2015Robert ‘Bob’ Stern, age 76, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on January 8, 2015, at St. Luke’s in Sioux City, Iowa.
Robert Gene Stern, the first child of Al and Marie (Weitzel) Stern, was born in Allison, Iowa, on October 17, 1938. In 1958, he graduated from Hayes Township High School where he excelled in basketball.
On December 22, 1963, Bob married Bonnie Frederickson at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Throughout the years, they enjoyed spending time with friends, playing volleyball, and taking supper rides on the Gold Wing. Married for fifty-one years, they were blessed with three children, Mike, Chad, and Dave. As a family, they enjoyed camping and spending time on their boat.
Bob worked at Hygrade until 1981. Then, he worked for a few years at Storm Lake Honda. Pursuing his passion for cars, Bob opened up his own business, Bob’s Country Body. With the help of his son, Dave, the business will go on to provide for another generation.
Bob enjoyed spending his free time outdoors. He had a passion for fishing and hunting. Indeed, most contented while fishing, he loved casting a line with his friends or letting his grandkids reel in “the big one.” His grandkids couldn’t wait to bring their catch home for one of grandpa’s famous fish fries.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Chad, of Harrisburg, North Carolina, and Dave (Tiffany), of Storm Lake; his sister, Bonnie (Tom) Augard, of Cherokee, and his five grandchildren, Ava, Brennon, Deven, Emme, and Taryn; as well as by many other relatives and friends.
Proceeding Bob in death are his son, Michael, and his parents, Alvin and Marie Stern.
Memorial services will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Monday, January 12, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
