January 22, 1931 - January 2, 2015

Arlene Jean Thompson, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015, in hospice care.

A daughter of Carroll and Edna (Meyer) Hackbarth, Arlene was born on January 22, 1931, on a farm near Popejoy, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1950. In August of 1950, she married Orville (Buzz) Thompson. As a younger adult during their many relocations, she worked as a telephone operator in Texas and South Dakota. Later, she worked as a clerk at Anthony's and Sernett's in Storm Lake.

Arlene was devoted to her husband and enjoyed traveling. They became anglophiles, taking family members and friends to England on many trips. Those who knew Arlene after Orville passed away in 1997 will also remember "Peaches."

Arlene is survived by her son, Thad Thompson, D.D.S. (Marilyn Wiggins D.D.S.); her daughter, Jane Hanstein; her grandson, Grant (Jennie) Hanstein; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Hanstein; her great granddaughter, Amelia Hanstein; and her second stepmother, Edna Hackbarth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her twin sister, Darlene Pommrehn.

By Arlene's request, a private family graveside service took place at the Alden Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to any charity of the donor's choice.
