February 16, 1930 - January 13, 2015Ruth Tucker, age 84, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Ruth Marilyn Newendorp, a daughter of Nelson and Myrtle (VanderVelde) Newendorp, was born on February 16, 1930, in Orange City, Iowa.
Ruth grew up in LeMars, Iowa, where she attended school. In 1948, she graduated from LeMars High School. She, then, continued her education at the University of Iowa School of Nursing, graduating in 1952 as a registered nurse.
On September 3, 1950, Ruth married Charles Wendell Tucker in LeMars. They were, subsequently, blessed with four children: David, Connie, Beth, and Mary.
Active in the community, Ruth was a president of PEO-Chapter JD. A member of the 37 Club, she also served as a Girl Scout Leaders and on the Witter Gallery Board.
In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed listening to music, traveling, hiking, experiencing watersports, and cooking. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Charles Wendell Tucker, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her children: Connie (Dave) Skibsted, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Beth (Dan) Wilkinson, of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and Mary Paine, of Nathrop, Colorado; her grandchildren: Amy (Dre) Oliver, of Otsego, Minnesota; Mitchell and Alex Paine, of Lincoln, Nebraska; Angie (Brandon) Shaw, of Madison, Wisconsin; Ben (Bridget) Skibsted, of Zumbro Falls, Minnesota, and Nick (Kim) Skibsted, of Brandon, South Dakota; Mike (Kristie) and Todd Tucker, of St. Anthony, Minnesota; and Brian and Sarah Wilkinson, of Chicago, Illinois; her great-grandchildren: Imani Oliver; Lucy, Madelyn, Rylie, and Trey Skibsted; and Amelia and Jace Tucker; her brother, Paul (Donna) Newendorp, of Estes Park, Colorado; and her sister-in-law, Thelma Tucker, of Gainesville, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Tucker; her grandson, Timothy Wilkinson; and her brother-in-law, Wilbur Tucker.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 16, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Unity Point Hospice or the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
