Mervin Schreyer Rebhuhn, a son of Martin and Dora Schreyer Rebhuhn, was born on May 10, 1931, in Pocahontas, Iowa. He graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1949, and then, he served in the Army for two years during the Korean War.

On July 11, 1954, he married LaVonne Gutz, the love of his life. They, eventually, settled in the Albert City area where he farmed for more than fifty years. They lived on their farm until 2007 when they moved to Spencer, Iowa. In July of 2014, they celebrated 60 years together.

Active in his church and community, Mervin enjoyed many friendships. Most of all, however, he treasured his family, embracing his roles as husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Throughout the years, he and LaVonne attended many special events for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They also enjoyed many family vacations including trips to Mexico, the Bahamas, and Hawaii. Caring, loving, and well-liked, he shared his smile with everyone he met.

Mervin passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park, Iowa, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Dora; his step-mother, Helen; and his brother, Ervin.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne (Gutz) Rebhuhn, of Spencer; his four children: Debra (Mike) Wienhold, of Janesville, Iowa, James (Carol) Rebhuhn, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Paul (Barb) Rebhuhn, of Fonda, Iowa, and Cindy (Jay) Ghazali, of Urbandale, Iowa; his grandchildren: Michelle Wienhold, of Iowa City, Iowa, Elizabeth (Adam) Horan, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jonathan (Jessica) Wienhold, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Adam Rebhuhn, of Madson, Wisconsin, Christine Rebhuhn, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Jacob Rebhuhn, of Westimster, Colorado, Ashley Rebhuhn, of Spencer, Iowa, and Brandon Ghazali and Breanna Bhazali, both of Urbandale, Iowa; and his great-grandchildren: Damien, Ariana, Trevon, Jonathan, Tearza, Annalise, and James.

SERVICES: 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer, Pastor C. Peter Maisenbach officiating.

CASKET BEARERS: Michelle Wienhold, Elizabeth Horan, Jonathan Wienhold, Adam Rebhuhn, Christine Rebhuhn, Jacob Rebhuhn, Ashley Rebhuhn, Brandon Ghazali, and Breanna Ghazali.

VISITATION: after 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, at the funeral home.

MUSIC: "How Great Thou Art" By Dennis Larson; Congregational Hymns: "I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry," "I, The Lord Of Sea And Sky," "God Be With You."

INTERMENT: Summit Hill Cemetery, Pocahontas, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Mervin Rebhuhn Memorial Fund.
