Harold Lussman
July 3, 1926 - January 9, 2015Harold Lussman, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Friday, January 9, 2015, at the North Lake Manor in Storm Lake.
Harold Irwin Lussman, a son of Edward and Anna (Mohr) Lussman, was born on July 3, 1926, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa, he attended school in Sulphur Springs, graduating in 1944.
Harold met Esther Glienke at a Lutheran Walther League Halloween Party on the farmstead that eventually became their home. They married on June 6, 1948. Subsequently, they were blessed with six children. After Esther’s passing, he had the good fortune to marry Esther Armstrong at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. He was a devoted husband to both wives.
An active member in the community, Harold served on the Zion Parochial School Board. A charter member for the Buena Vista Rifle and Pistol Club, he also joined the Farm Bureau, the Zion Lutheran Church Men’s Club, and the dart ball team.
Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting, and collecting antique tractors. He was an aviation enthusiast. An avid reader, he also loved history. Most of all, however, he loved spending time with his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Dr. Myra Heck Lussman (Ray Forman), of Clive, Iowa, Bonnie (Randy) Quillen, of Grand Lake, Colorado, Edward (Linda) Lussman, of Lakeville, Minnesota, Paul (Rhonda Harrington) Lussman, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Daniel John Lussman, of Fonda, Iowa, and Joyce Nielsen, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: Nicole (Kale) Glover; Kelby (Ruby) and Kirk Heck; Casey Quillen (Kris) Middledorf; Kelly (fiancé, Mike) Munt; Tammy and John Nielsen; Jared (Gia) Quillen; Ashley and Zachary (Sarah) Lussman; and Clint (Jessica) Roberts; his great-grandchildren: Kooper Anderson; Kase and Kage Glover; Georgia, Kail, Lane, and Gage Heck; Dillon and Avery Middledorf; Killian Munt; Reagan and James Quillen; and Ethan, Evan, Eli, and Ella Roberts; his brothers, Willis (Lorna) and Darwin Lussman; his sister, Arta (Dr. John) Harman; his step-children: Dale (Sandy), Glenn (Carolyn), and Gary (Gail) Armstrong; and his step-grandchildren: Brandon, Justin, Tyler, Randi, Kerri, Rachel, Jacob, and Ryan Armstrong; as well as many nieces; nephews; and numerous lifelong friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives; an infant son; and a sister-in-law, Joanne H. Lussman.
For eighty-eight years, Harold had the Lord in his heart, and now, he has been called Home. May the Lord keep You in his grace until the time of our joyous reunion in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will take place in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
