Lloyd Francis Galbraith
March 25, 1925 - June 28, 2014Lloyd F. Galbraith, age 89, of Newell, Iowa, died on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Lloyd was born on March 25, 1925, in Sac City, Iowa, a son of Julian “Jude” and Alice (Mooney) Galbraith.
Baptized and confirmed into the Methodist faith at the Galbraith family church, Lloyd attended Douglas Country School. He, then, transferred to Newell High School where he graduated in 1943. Afterwards, he continued his education at A.I.B.
On November 20, 1948, Lloyd married V. Jeanette (Boyd) Galbraith at the United Methodist Church in Newell. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Terry, Theresa, Toni, and Thomas.
Passionate about the American Legion, Lloyd held many, if not all, of the offices both locally and state wide at one time or another. In Newell, he was also a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
In his spare time, Lloyd loved to golf, especially at the Newell Golf Park where he was a member. A loyal Newell-Fonda and Iowa Hawkeyes sports fan, he also enjoyed puzzles, including crossword puzzles, and card games. Most of all, however, Lloyd loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-five years, V. Jeanette Galbraith, of Newell, Iowa; his children: Terry (Mirandi) Galbraith, of Euless, Texas, Theresa Tymeson, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Toni (Doug) Van Pelt, of Cropwell, Alabama, and Thomas (Janelle) Galbraith, of Radford, Virginia, his grandchildren: Shane (Beth) Otto, of Birmingham, Alabama, Nikel Otto (Chad) McDougal, of Naperville, Illinois, Erin Tymeson Morgan, of Atlanta, Georgia, Amanda Tymeson (Damien) Lipke, of New York, New York, Alyson Galbraith (Derek) Scott, of Frisco, Texas, Emily Galbraith (Chris) Bailey, of Little Elm, Texas, and Elena, Olivia, and Mia Galbraith, of Radford, Virginia; his great-grandchildren: Owen and Kyndall McDougal, of Naperville, Illinois, Spencer and Virginia Otto, of Birmingham, Alabama, and the twins, Ava and Grace Scott, of Frisco, Texas; his brother-in-law, Steen (Elayne) Boyd, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Donna Boyd (Dennis) Henrich, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; as well as extended family and many friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Julian “Jude” and Alice (Mooney) Galbraith; and his brother, Donald “Shorty” Galbraith of Newell.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Inurnment will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
