Elenora T. Coons
November 14, 1923 - July 5, 2014Elenora T. Coons, age 90, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on July 5, 2014, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Elenora T. Lackman, a daughter of John and Anna (Loethen) Lackman, was born on November 14, 1923, in Meta, Missouri. As a small child, she moved with her family to the Ida Grove area where she attended country school. Later, the family moved to the Albert City and Varina areas.
During World War II, Elenora worked at the Superior Manufacturing Company where she helped make munitions. On January 30, 1946, she married Herbert Stuckenschneider at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Varina during a snowstorm. To this union three children were born: Gary, Joan, and Greg. The family farmed for many years in the Marathon and Newell area. In the early 1960s, however, they moved to Storm Lake where Elenora went to work for the Paulson Laundry, a job she held until she retired. After Herbs death in 1970, she married Leo Coons and with this union two step children joined the family, Larry and Marilyn.
Elenora will always be remembered for never knowing a stranger. She had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and usually found out that they had someone or something in common. An avid card player, she spent many years playing cards with her husband, brothers, sisters, and later with friends. She enjoyed cooking and especially making treats for family and friends. Her brownies were the best ever.
A member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Elenora served as an example of a life well lived. Her strong moral fiber as well as her loving kindness to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, and friends will always be remembered. A generous and kind hearted person, she simply lived life to the fullest.
Elenora is survived by her children: Gary (Colleen) Stuckenschneider, Joan (Rich) Spooner, and Greg (Lisa) Stuckenschneider, all of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her step-children: Larry Coons, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Marilyn Harvey, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren: Tammy (Doyle) McKeever, Julie (Rob) Helbing, Adam (Dawn) Spooner, Cory (Brandi) Spooner, Jodi (Fred) Theisen, Chad (Theresa) Stuckenschneider, Hayley Stuckenschneider, and Amber Konradi; her step-grandchildren: Steve (Linda) Harvey and Sheila (Andy) Marron; twenty-five great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Lackman; as well as nieces; nephews; extended family members; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her brothers, Bernard and John Lackman, Jr.; her sister, Anna Johnson; her brother-in-law, Norman Johnson; her sister-in-law, Esther Lackman; her grandson, Joshua Spooner; and her great grandson, Kolby McKeever.
