Mildred "Millie" Hansen
September 14, 1916 - February 5, 2014

Mildred “Millie” Hansen, age 97, of Albert City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the Pleasant View Home at Albert City.

Mildred “Millie” Viola Erickson, the daughter of Charles Alfred and Anna Christina (Olson) Erickson was born in Maryfield, Saskatchewan, Canada, on September 14, 1916. She lived her youth and received her education while residing in Canada.

On April 7, 1945, Millie married Wallace Hansen in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. To this union, two sons were born: Warren and Bradley. Following their marriage, Millie and Wallace lived in Barron, Wisconsin, where they were operated a dairy farm. In 1946, however, they moved to Albert City where they rented a farm from their Aunt Molly. In 1958, the Hansen’s purchased their current farm near Rembrandt. They moved to their farmstead in 1960 where Millie had made her home since that time. After Wallace died on March 9, 2000, Warren returned home to care for his mother and manage the farm.

A member of the Evangelical Free Church of Albert City, Millie will always be remembered for putting the Lord first in her life. She enjoyed watching game shows, doing word puzzles, playing scrabble, and traveling to California to visit her son and his family. Millie was a very loyal, true, and positive helpmate for her husband, Wallace. She always enjoyed talking with people on the telephone, and everyone who knew her commented on what a “young voice” she had. Millie cherished the members of her family and the times they could spend together. She loved the Christmas holiday, and every year, she enjoyed decorating and sharing in the giving and receiving of gifts. An extremely thankful person, she, also, saw every day as “Thanksgiving Day.”

Millie is survived by her two sons: Warren Hansen, of Marathon, Iowa, and Bradley and Jayne Hansen, of Chula Vista, California; her two grandsons and their spouses, Jay Bradley and Vivienne Hansen, of El Cajon, California, and Ryan Albert and Amy Hansen, of North Hollywood, California; and three great grandchildren: Hendrix, Crosby Jane, and Millie Magnolia Hansen; as well as by other extended family members and many lifelong friends.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Chester; and three sisters: Helen Erickson, Myrtle Heal, and Ethel Rodine.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Interment will take place in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the family present the entire time.
