Wilma M. Hansen
November 22, 1923 - March 23, 2014

Wilma Marie (Remillard) Hansen, age 90, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, entered eternal life on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Wilma was born on November 22, 1923, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Marie (Meyer) Remillard. Growing up, she attended school in Sioux Rapids. On March 22, 1945, she married Charles Robert (Bob) Hansen in Spencer, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Sondra, Julie, and Craig. In all, Bob and Wilma would share sixty-one years of married life.

A marvelous cook, Wilma relished hosting her family for fried chicken or roast beef, potatoes, and gravy dinners. She was also known for her outstanding banana bread and brownies.

Wilma was employed at Simonsen Iron Works and Nelson Products in Sioux Rapids. As her children grew up, however, she spent most of her time as a homemaker and mother. Indeed, she most valued the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, the highlights of her life.

Wilma cared for Bob as his health declined before he entered the Sioux Care Center in November, 2005. He passed away on January 27, 2007. She, however, remained in their long-time home until March, 2011, when she, too, entered the Sioux Care Center.

Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family which includes her daughters, Sondi (Brad) Raveling, of Storm Lake, and Julie (Kermit) Schultze, of Marathon, and her son, Craig, of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Phyllis Braesch, of Marathon; her grandchildren, Paulette (Coby) Newbold, of Boone, and Trish (Craig) Olinger, of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; and her great-grandchildren Brenna, Brady, Grant, and Tyler Newbold, of Boone, and Bradford Olinger, of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Marie Remillard; an infant son, James; her husband, Bob; her brothers, Wayne, Richard, and Calvin; her sisters, Velma, Vera, and Vesta; her sisters-in-law, Donna and Ellie Remillard; and her brothers-in-law, Alvin Rouse, Floyd Nelson, and Kenny Braesch.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will follow at Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
