January 3, 1934 - March 27, 2014Phyllis Hale, age 80, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on March 27, 2014, at her home in Sioux Rapids.
Phyllis Joy Story was born on January 3, 1934, in Peterson, Iowa, a daughter of Dale Story and Erma (England) Lauridson. Baptized as a child at the United Methodist Church in Peterson, she also attended grade school in Peterson. She, then, enrolled at Spencer High School where she graduated in 1950.
On October 7, 1963, Phyllis married Harrison John Hale in Jackson, Minnesota. Together, they raised their four children: Debbie, Dee, Buddy, and John.
In her spare time, Phyllis loved to bowl. She was in many leagues throughout the years in Spencer, Sutherland, and Sioux Rapids. She, also, enjoyed many trips and cruises with her family. Other hobbies included: gambling, reading, playing cards and board games, and watching Jeopardy.
Phyllis treasured her family. She looked forward to family get-togethers and holidays. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Harrison Hale, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her children: Debbie (Merv) Miller, of Flower Mound, Texas, and Dee (Rick) Keith, of Aurelia, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Becky Hale, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jessica Hale, of Cherokee, Iowa, Jeff Gerhard, of Port Angeles, Washington, Mike Keith of Linn Grove, Iowa, Mollie Keith and Sara Parsons, of Arlington, Virginia, Mary (Justin) Schulenberg, of Aurelia, Iowa, Melissa (Matt) Wulf, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Lacy Hale and Caleb Garberding, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Chelsea (Patrick) Wilson, of Spencer, Iowa; her great-grandchildren: Nathan Hale; Skye, Kanyon, and Haylen Gerhard; Kaden, Lily, Kouper, and Kalvin Schulenberg; Hannah Illg-Keith; Devyn, Ethyn, Joey, and Paxtyn Wilson; Claire and Bryant Garberding; and soon-to-be Baby Wulf; her brothers-in-law: Ray Payne, of Port Angeles, Washington; Darwin Thompson, of Brownsville, Texas; Bill Hale, of Spencer, Iowa; and Raymond Hale, of Rembrandt, Iowa; her sisters-in-law: Gemaine Jessen (Tom Roberts) of Ayrshire, Iowa, Marlene (Don) Fassler, of Watertown, South Dakota, Lois Hale, of Humboldt, Iowa, and Rachel (John) Krenk, of Ida Grove, Iowa; and her nephews: Darwin (Evy) Thompson, Jr., of Mission Viejo, California, Dennis Thompson, of Port Townsend, Washington, and Dale Thompson, of Evanston, Wyoming; as well as extended family members and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her children: Buddy and John Hale; her brother, Gary Story; her sister, Mary Payne; her brothers-in-law, Clyde and Bob Hale; and her sisters-in-law, Wilma and Marge Hale.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with the family present the entire time at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
