Irene Brown was born on February 26 1918, in Linn Grove, Iowa, to Lewis and Ethel (Tunsel) Brown. In 1935, she graduated from Linn Grove High School.

Confirmed and baptized on April 24, 1939, she married Edgar Winterhof on December 15, 1940. To this union, four sons were born, Gordon Le Roy, Warren Edgar, Kenneth Dean, and Ronald Keith.

Irene enjoyed bowling, quilting, golfing, and playing BINGO and cards. She was a member of the Galva Legion Auxiliary, a 4-H leader, and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Ladies Aide.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Gordon Winterhof (April 25, 1941) and Kenneth Winterhof (February 24, 2004); three brothers and two sisters, Russell, Owen, Bob, Anita, and Phyllis; a daughter-in-law, Janice Winterhof; two sisters-in-law, Verna Witt and Betty Mimms; and two brothers-in-law, Louis Winterhof and Ernest Witt.

Survivors include her sons, Warren (Nancy) Winterhof, of Walnut, Iowa, and Ronald Winterhof, of Alta; her daughter-in-law, Judy Winterhof, of Holstein; her grandchildren, Brent (Theresa) Winterhof, of Center Point, Iowa, JoDee Winterhof, of Washington D.C., Chad (Jennifer) Winterhof, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Adam (Katie) Winterhof, of Denver, Colorado, Stephen (Janis) Winterhof, of Omaha, Nebraska, Amy (Al) Peine, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, and Christine (Matthew) Wunschel, of Ida Grove; her great-grandchildren, Brittany (Mark) Rogers, of Ida Grove, Stefan Wunschel, also of Ida Grove, Colby Drey-Winterhof, of Sioux City, Iowa, Payton, Maxwell and Hayden Winterhof, of Omaha, Nebraska, Gavin (Amy) Winterhof, of Alburnett, Iowa, Colin (Jourdi) Winterhof, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lux and Will Winterhof, of Washington D.C., Breanna Winterhof, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, James Cooper “JC” Winterhof, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Grace, Carolyn, and Lillah Winterhof, of Denver, Colorado; her great-great-grandchildren, Colten Rogers, of Ida Grove, and Emmet and Lilly Winterhof, of Alburnett, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Delores (Bob) Popp, of Marshalltown, Iowa; and George Mimms, of Potomac, Illinois.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church of rural Alta (Hanover) with the Rev. John H. Schmidt officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 09, 2013, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of rural Alta (Hanover).
