Anita Ackerman, age 63, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on August 1, 2013, in Storm Lake.
Anita Louise Wessman was born on September 17, 1949, in Laurens, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Arlene (Peterson) Wessman. As an infant, she was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was later confirmed in 1964.
Growing up, she attended school in Albert City, graduating from Albert City Truesdale High School in 1967. While in high school, she was active as a cheerleader. Following her high school years, she attended Mankato Commercial College where she completed a business degree in 1968.
On July 20, 1969, Anita married Nick Ackerman at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. They were blessed with three children: Michael, Andrea, and Michelle.
A lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, Anita participated in the Joanna Group and served as the Women’s ELCA secretary. Very dedicated to the church, she was always willing to help out with whatever needed doing. In addition, she served on the Buena Vista Regional Hospital Board and the Albert City-Truesdale Foundation Board. She also belonged to the Truesdale Farmer’s Club.
Anita loved living on the farm where she took pride in the yard work, decorating, and cooking. She found much joy in taking care of her flower garden. She liked collecting antiques and refinishing furniture. She had a passion for taking pictures and scrapbooking. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Anita cherished making memories with her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Nick Ackerman, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her children: Michael (Stephanie) Ackerman, of Peosta, Iowa, and Michelle (Ben) McCollum, of Maryville, Missouri; her grandchildren: Trevor and Ethan Ackerman and Peyton and Tate McCollum; her parents, Richard and Arlene Wessman; her brother, Tom Wessman, of Albert City, Iowa; her sisters: Rosemary Cohoon, of Norman, Oklahoma, Annette Boswell, of Portland, Oregon, Dee Pearce, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Pat (Marc) Hagenson, of Tempe, Arizona, and Linda (Bruce) Baier, of Alta, Iowa; as well as several aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; cousins; and a host of neighbors and friends.
Anita was preceded in death by her father- and mother-in-law, John and Wilma Ackerman; and her daughter, Andrea Louise Ackerman.
Visitation: 2:00-7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on August 04, 2013, at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
