Charles A. "Ashley" Wilson, 98, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013, at his home.

"Ashley" was born on August 11, 1914, in Newell, to Edmond and Emma (McConnell) Wilson. He grew up on several farms in the Newell area. After graduating from Iowa State University in 1939, he went on to the University of Illinois at Urbana where he earned a master's degree in Dairy Science. Prior to and during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

On March 23, 1943, Ashley married Isabelle Thomson in Ottawa, Illinois. He worked for the Borden Dairy Co., in Chicago for many years and lived in Franklin Park with his family until they moved to Woodstock in 1965. After the Woodstock plant closed, he worked for Dean Foods in Chemung until he retired. After forty years in Woodstock, Ashley and Isabelle moved to Rockford in 2005 to be closer to their family.

Ashley always enjoyed wood working and carving duck decoys. He liked doing home improvement projects for his family.

A devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock, Ashley also belonged to the Woodstock VFW Post 5040.

Ashley is survived by his eight children, Eric (Sue) Wilson, of Edgerton, Wisconsin, Margaret Wilson, Pam Wilson, Kathy (Jim) O'Brien, Barbara Wilson, John (Pam) Wilson, and Doug (Diane) Wilson, all of Rockford, and Craig (Sue) Wilson, of Allison Park, Pennsylvania; and nine grandchildren, Chris Wilson, Mike Wilson, Jack (Jen) O'Brien, Valerie O'Brien, Laura Wilson, Elena Wilson, Andy Wilson, Robin Wilson, and Evan Wilson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ashley was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle, in 2008; his parents; and ten siblings, Genevieve Helland, Lucille Brown, Marion Thom, Emery Wilson, Gene Wilson, John Wilson, Frank Wilson, Janet Weber, Leonard Wilson, and George Wilson.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2013, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 201 W. South St., Woodstock, Illinois 60098. Burial will be at McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodstock with Military Honors provided by the Woodstock VFW Post 5040 Honors Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock.
