Patricia A. Wall, age 79, of Alta, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013, after a brief illness and a long, wonderful journey through life.

A longtime resident of Alta, Iowa, Pat was born on January 3, 1934, grew up in Hawarden, Iowa, attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and married Jim Wall in 1957.

Pat’s life revolved around her family, her friends and her faith. She worked for several years in the Alta School system, but her main title in life was Mom. She and Jim taught their children the value of hard work, instilled in them the importance of family, and modeled for them the true meaning of devotion “in sickness and health” until Jim’s death in 1993. Pat loved to brag about her kids and grandkids, attend their school and athletic events, make them chocolate chip cookies, and beat them in a game of Ping-Pong.

Pat also loved to golf, bowl, play cards, travel, and go out for coffee. She loved golf enough to play alone on occasion, but she drew the most joy from these activities when she could share them with her precious friends. Those who knew her will remember her as a fierce competitor, an avid Iowa State fan, and a generous neighbor and friend.

As a member of the United Methodist Church in Alta, Pat enjoyed participating in the bell choir, the UMW, and the Bible studies program as well as serving as church board secretary. The worn pages of her Bible as well as her prayers for her family and friends spoke of her love for God and her belief in His ever-present help in her life. Everyone should be advised that she is celebrating with Him now.

Pat was the mother of Cheryl Holm (Marshfield, Wisconsin), Steve Wall (Ankeny, Iowa), Brian Wall (Manning, Iowa), and Michael Wall (Altoona, Iowa); mother-in-law to Dave, Colette, Denise, and Lori; and the grandma of Nathan, Jesse, Becca, Ryan, Erik, Toby, and Mathias. She was the sister of Bill Rush, Bob Rush, Jean Smith (Blakely, Georgia), Paul Rush, and Charlene Anderson (Storm Lake, Iowa); the daughter of Clarence and Esther Rush; and a child of God.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church of Alta with the Rev. David A. Arulnathan officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta.
