Nina S. Johnson
March 12, 1914 - May 30, 2013

Storm Lake, formerly of Alta

Nina S. Johnson was born on March 12, 1914, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Dan and Erma (Matthews) Jorgensen. She attended country school in Brayton, Iowa. After her completing her schooling, she was married and her daughter, Ruby, was born. Nina later married Dave Johnson. In 1970, she retired from her career as a nurse’s aide at the Alta Hospital in order to care for her husband after he suffered a stroke. She lived in the Alta area from 1936 until April, 2008, when she moved to Otsego Place in Storm Lake.

A long-time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Nina always had a tremendously strong faith in the Lord, a trait which carried her through life with such a positive attitude that she inspired many who knew her.

Nina loved music, reading, sewing, quilting, and spending time with her family and friends. A kind, gentle, loving, and strong willed person always willing to help others whenever she could, she found joy in serving others, but she never wanted any accolades for her kindness. She always felt that her family knew, and that was what mattered to her. So no trumpets will be blown for the good she did in this world. Those who knew her already know.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David V. Johnson (April 12, 1976); her son, David V. Johnson, Jr., (August 11, 2007); three brothers, Carl, Daniel, and James Harold, (who died when he was only ten days old after being born with a bad heart); and three sisters, Betty Knight, Ethel Kopaska, and Delma Palladino; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She will be lovingly remembered by those she leaves behind including her daughter-in-law, Connie, of Norman, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, LaDonna (Jeff) Brummer, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Robin Hall, of Simi Valley, California, Todd (Jan) Johnson, of San Clemente, California, and Chadd Johnson, of Simi Valley, California; ten great-grandchildren: Amanda (Jeremy) Betts; Stephanie Brummer; Ryan, Brittany, and Tyler Hall; and Peyton, Dane, Callan, Megan, and Logan Johnson; and three great-great-grandchildren, Caden Brummer, and Chloe and Eli Betts; as well as by other extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 05, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. Ron E. Rothweiler officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 04, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. Burial will be at the Scandinavian Cemetery of Alta.
