The second of four sons of Robert Alex and Myrtle (Kruse) Eddie, Roger Dale Eddie, was born on October 2, 1932, in Carroll, Nebraska. In 1945, the family moved from Nebraska to their farm north of Storm Lake. Roger graduated from Truesdale High School in 1949. Baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Iowa, in 1969, he remained a member until his death.
On February 20, 1955, Roger married Melva Marlene Foval at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Iowa. They were blessed with three sons, Kevin Douglas, Kyle David, and Kirby Lowell.

During the first years of their marriage, they were stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, then at Kirkland, Washington, where they lived from November 1955 until April 1957. Returning to the Storm Lake area, Roger farmed with his brother, Dean, near Truesdale. In May 1966, he and Marlene bought and moved to their family farm on Hwy 71.
A dedicated farmer, Roger took great pleasure in working the land.
