Brett Sundberg
March 22, 1968 ~ May 30, 2019 (age 51)

Brett Sundberg, age 51, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died on Thursday, May 30, 2019, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Brett Sundberg was born on March 22, 1968, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Gary and Barbara (Thompson) Sundberg. Baptized at Shepard of the Valley Church as an infant and later confirmed at Messiah Lutheran Church, he spent most of his early childhood near Phoenix. During those years, he enjoyed trips back to Iowa to see family and spend time at the farm. In addition, he liked to go fishing.

In his youth, Brett attended Cordova School. After Brett and Barb moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, in 1981, however, he attended and then graduated from Hot Springs High School on May 24, 1987.

In the early 1990s, Brett moved to the cities. He worked at various hotels with various responsibilities. He enjoyed the city and would often cruise around just taking in the sites.

In 2004, Brett made his move to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to find a place closer to family in Sioux Falls, his mom in Cherokee, and other family in the area. Brett worked at many restaurants and made several friends. Most recently, he worked at The Frying Pan in Sioux Falls.

Brett had several interests, but some of his best memories came from his playing jokes and a few pranks on those he cared for. He, really, had a great sense of humor. In addition, he loved having several pets. He seemed to prefer cats although he kept fish, snakes, and dogs as well.

Brett had a very special bond with his mom, Barb. He would often take trips to Sioux Rapids and Storm Lake. After his parents passed, he enjoyed family members, friends, and sharing stories of his mom and dad.

Brett was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Barbara Sundberg; his grandparents, Ivan and Virginia Thompson and John and Lucille Sundberg; and seven Sundberg aunts and uncles.

Those left to cherish his memory include his stepmother, Mary Sundberg; his aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family members including Suzanne Potratz and her family; along with his two cats, Jersey and Buffy.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Brett’s personal quote on life is, “You Got That Right”.
