John P. Wise
July 5, 1945 - November 25, 2018

John Philip Wise, age 73, of Spencer, Iowa, formerly of Newell, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 25, 2018, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer.

John, a son of Donald and Evelyn (Sorenson) Wise, was born on July 5, 1945, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Baptized in his youth and confirmed at the First Baptist Church in Newell, he attended grade school and high school in Newell, graduating from Newell Providence in 1964. Then, he enlisted in the Navy, faithfully serving his country during the Vietnam War from December of 1965 until September of 1969.

On June 8, 1968, John married Beverly Fitchett at the United Methodist Church in Newell. Subsequently, they were blessed with six children: Donald, Linda, Diane, Julie, Nancy, and Brian. As an Alta VFW member, Assistant Scoutmaster with Newell Boy Scout Troop 102, and formerly a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, John, actively, participated in his community. In his free time, John enjoyed hunting, playing cards, dancing, and traveling to Branson. Above all, however, he loved spending time with his family. Without a doubt, he will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Donald Wise, of Sioux City, Iowa, Linda (David) Nase, of Milford, Iowa, Nancy (Gary) Richter, of Hartley, Iowa, and Brian (Ann) Wise, of Newell, Iowa; his sisters, Janet (Glen) Pedersen, of Marion, Iowa, and Karen (Luke) Druivenga, of New Market, Iowa; his grandchildren: Jacob, Andrew, Daniel, and Heather of Milford, Iowa; Chris Wise of Hartley, Iowa; Aaron Jansen, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Cole and Corinne Wise, of Newell, Iowa; and his step-grandchildren, Chance Richter, of Altoona, Iowa, and Kaci Richter, of Hartley, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Evelyn Wise; his brother, Keith Wise; and two daughters, Diane and Julie Wise.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in NEWELL. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
