June 23, 1939 - December 4, 2018Primitiva Baker, age 79, of Newell, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Primitiva (Catamora) Baker, a daughter of Beato M. & Elacia (Medici) Catamora was born on June 23, 1939, in the Philippines. Raised in San Isidro, Nueya Ecija, the Philippines, she completed high school and then attended college and graduated with a degree in Education. Later, she met and married Richard Baker while he was serving in the Navy. Two children were born to their union, Erika and Wesley. Primitiva and Richard, however, later divorced. In the late 1960s, Primitiva moved to Newell, Iowa, and worked at various concerns including the Dairy Mart and the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell and Aalfs and Sara Lee in Storm Lake.
Primitiva is survived by her daughter, Erika, and her husband, Mark Gilligan, of Newell, and their son, Joseph; and her son, Wesley, of Sloan; as well as by extended family members in the Philippines. She will be deeply missed by many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Newell. Visitation will take place during the hour before the service at the church. Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
