Vera June Rapp died on Monday, September 10, 2018, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

She was born on November 18, 1923, to Ulfert C. and Hattie M. (Schuck) Willemssen at Sibley, Iowa. She attended school at High View and graduated from Alta High School in 1942. On February 7, 1945, she married Ladell E. Rapp at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia. Over the years, she held several jobs, working for Fitzgerald Insurance for two years, Fraser Elevator for two years, for Farmers National Bank, and then for Heritage Bank in Aurelia for thirty years. Lastly, she worked for Wal-Mart for two years. A member of the First Congregational Church, she served on the Women’s Fellowship Committee for over seventy years. For many years, she, also, belonged to the Pythian Sisters. Vera enjoyed spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she enjoyed watching them play sports and engage in other activities. In addition, she loved picnics, vacations, shopping, and playing games.

Preceding Vera in death were her parents, her husband, Ladell, on September 5, 1986; a brother, Harold Willemssen; and a brother-in-law, Tom Frederiksen. Survivors include her two sons, Rev. Bruce, and his wife, Polly (Gano) Rapp, of Aurelia, and Brian, and his wife, Diana (Rider) Rapp, of Peoria, Arizona; three grandchildren: Jared, and his wife, Jill Rapp, of Moville, Adam, and his wife, Renae Rapp, of Cherokee, and Jada, and her husband, Tim Jones, also of Cherokee; seven great-grandchildren: Austin, Madison, Maya, Noah, and Shea Rapp; and Alexus and Lennix Jones; a sister, Fern Frederiksen, of Storm Lake; a brother-in-law, Frank, and his wife, Marian Rapp; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Peterson and Carmel Shaw; as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Vera J. Rapp, 94, of Aurelia, will be held Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 10:30 A.M., at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 P. M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present from 5:00 till 7:00 at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
