Ronovan Ray Meyer
December 19, 1936 - April 18, 2018

Ronovan R. Meyer, age 81, of Alta and formerly of Storm Lake, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Ron, a son of Alvin and Frieda, was born on December 19, 1936, in Fairbury, Nebraska. Until 1944, he lived on a farm in Jefferson County, Nebraska, when his family moved to rural Storm Lake, Iowa. He graduated from Providence Consolidated High School of Sulphur Springs in 1954. Then, he attended Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture. In 1960, he began farming with his father. On November 6th, of that same year, he married Jane Esther Dreier at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Hanover) in Alta, Iowa. Subsequently, they raised two children, Cheryl and Bruce. In 2004, Ron and Jane retired from farming and moved to Alta where they cherished visits with their friends, family, and especially their grandchildren.

Ron loved life on the farm. Looking to make his farm more successful, he was, constantly, searching out new technologies to improve his efficiency. Even after retiring, Ron's passion for farming and livestock continued. He never stopped monitoring weather forecasts, agronomy trends, and market prices.

An avid fan of Iowa State sports, especially football, men's basketball and women's basketball, Ron, often, traveled with Jane to attend games in Ames. Moreover, his wardrobe consisted largely of Iowa State shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. In addition, Ron loved to travel. Indeed, he and Jane traveled to locations around the world including Alaska, Australia, and the Panama Canal. They, even, enjoyed many cruises as well. They both loved Hawaii and returned there every winter for many years.

Ron enjoyed conversing with his many friends, loving to share all of his stories with them. In addition, he never shied away from a good debate, often taking the opposing view just to keep things spirited and lively. Then, too, he loved history and enjoyed touring museums on his travels. Ron had an amazing memory. He could recount the smallest details about his life including names, dates, places and experiences from his earliest years.

Ron's life will continue to be celebrated by his wife, Jane Meyer; his children: Cheryl Meyer (Derek Anderson), of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Bruce (Kelsey) Meyer, of Stanton, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Kaden and Brody Meyer, of Lincoln, Nebraska; his sister, Betty (Terry) Penniman, of Scottsdale, Arizona; his nephew, Tyler (Angela) Penniman, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and his niece, Adelina Penniman, of Scottsdale, Arizona. Ron will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents: Alvin and Frieda Meyer; and his father- and mother-in-law, Arthur and Emma Dreier.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Sunday, April 22, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
