Melvin J. Aronson, age 92, of Albert City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

A son of Andrew and Elsa (Blomberg) Aronson, Melvin was born on March 23, 1926, on a farm in rural Albert City. Baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, Iowa, he attended school in Albert City, graduating from Albert City High School in 1944. In February 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving until he was honorably discharged in March 1947. On June 10, 1948, he married Mavis Swenson on her family’s farm. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children: Melody, Mark, Miriam, and Matthew.

He participated in the Albert City Threshermen’s organization. He, also, spent time woodworking, gardening, mowing, and fixing items on the farm. He served as a Sunday school teacher at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and on the Church Board. In addition, he sang in the church choir and took part in musicals with Mavis. Moreover, he cherished his family and attended as many family activities as possible. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mavis, of Albert City, Iowa; his children: Melody Baker, of Sac City, Iowa, Miriam (Greg) Bjornstad, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Matthew Aronson, of Waterloo, Iowa; his grandchildren: Marissa (Mike) Crimmins, of Clare, Iowa, Mark (Stefanie) Snyder, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Bjorn Bjornstad, of Portland, Oregon; his great-grandchildren: Avery and Isabelle Snyder; Alexis and Aden Bjornstad; and Matthew, Mark, and Mia Crimmins; his sister-in-law, Betty Aronson, of Seattle, Washington; and his brother-in-law, Don (Sandra) Swenson, of Mount Vernon, Iowa; as well as extended family members and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elsa Aronson; his son, Mark Aronson; his son-in-law, Doug Baker; his grandsons, Benjamin and Hans Bjornstad; his brothers and sisters: Oliver Aronson, Viola Meyer, Lillian Schultz, Sylvia Schultz, Olivia Cole, Conrad Aronson, Robert Aronson, and Martin Aronson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
