September 13, 1934 - March 27, 2018

Rose Wetherell, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, in Storm Lake.

Rose Ann, a daughter of Benjamin and Lottie (Kulas) Gunsior, was born on September 13, 1934, in Plains, Pennsylvania. Baptized and confirmed at Sts. Peters and Paul Church in Plains, she attended school in Pennsylvania, graduating from Plains High School in 1953. On October 28, 1961, she married Dale Wetherell in Plains. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children: Robert, Lissa, and Dale, Jr.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Rose attended Mass weekly. A volunteer at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Coffee Shop for over thirty years and a weekly volunteer at the SOS Store in Storm Lake, she, truly, enjoyed volunteering. Participating in her children’s activities, she, also, volunteered as a Girl Scout leader. Indeed, she, not only started the Girl Scout troop in Newell, but also, she served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. Moreover, she attended countless sporting events in which her children, grandchildren, or great granddaughter were participating. She supported her family in every way.

Rose and her sister, Sophie, owned and operated the Mini-Mart Convenience Store in Newell for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed China painting, sewing, and reading. In addition, she treasured the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Undoubtedly, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Dale Wetherell, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her children: Robert Wetherell, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Lissa (Tony) Izzo, of Kendall Park, New Jersey, and Dale, Jr., (Barb) Wetherell, of Alta, Iowa; her grandchildren: Amanda and Nick Izzo; Rebecca (Zach) Weier; and Ben, Josh, and Sean Wetherell; her great granddaughter, Danika Wetherell; her brother, Leonard (Lorraine) Gunsior, of Annapolis, Maryland; her sisters, Carol Gilman, of Boca Raton, Florida, and Betty McPherson, of Brick, New Jersey; as well as extended family members and friends. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Lottie Gunsior; her sisters, Celia Sconda and Sophie Wetherell; and her brothers, John and Peter Gunsior.

A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, April 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, April 1, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with a parish vigil service starting at 6:30 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
