Richard S. "Dick" Booth
(January 22, 1936 - November 22, 2017)

Richard S. "Dick" Booth, 81, of Alta, Iowa, formerly of the Peterson, Iowa area, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, November 22, 2017, at his home in Alta.

Dick was born on January 22, 1936, at Rembrandt, Iowa, to George & Verna (Corrington) Booth. He graduated from Brooke High School, rural Peterson, Iowa. On January 4, 1959, he married Lorraine Griffith at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1959 until his discharge as a SPC4 in February 1961. From 1961 until 1986, he farmed on an acerage south of Peterson, Iowa. Dick, then, went to work for the U.S.D.A. as a federal meat inspector until he retired in November of 1999. He had lived in Alta since 2004. Previously, he had lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, California, and rural Peterson, Iowa. A member of the Methodist Church and of the Dean Underwood Post #10 of the American Legion at Peterson, Iowa, he enjoyed playing golf, cards, board games, and pool as well as dancing, snowmobiling in his younger years, traveling with his wife Lorraine, and spending winters in Texas, which they did for fourteen years.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Duane Booth, in August of 2002; four brothers; and two sisters, Dick is survived by his wife of almost fifty-nine years, Lorraine, of Alta, Iowa; two daughters, Cynthia (John) Osborne, Sr., of Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Michele (Travis) Hoschar, of Tallahassee, Florida; six grandchildren: Regina (Tim) Hughes, Nicole (Edward) Billmeyer, Tyler Booth, Ashley (Gerad) Velasquez, Cody Booth, Quentin Bonge (fiancée, Noelle Pingree); four step-grandchildren: Esther (Craig) McCormick, John (Heather) Osborne, Jr., Jade (Greg) Rice, Jacob Hoschar (fiancée, Jordan McGraw); thirteen great grandchildren with one more on the way; his sister, Pat (Bill) Jensen, of Battle Creek, Iowa; and a special niece, Shari Carlson, of Marcus, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, with Pastor Norman Prather, Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Full military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and Dean Underwood Post #10 of the American Legion will follow the service outside the funeral home. Visitation will take place on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Following the service, cremation will take place.
