Baptized at the Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa, and later confirmed there as well, she attended a one room grade school in Delay Township, Jasper County, where she enjoyed her large close-knit family. After graduating from Newton High School in 1955, she attended Iowa State University for one year. She, then, began working at Maytag where she remained until she married.

In August of 1955, Joan attended Iowa’s first Leadership Conference at the State 4-H Camp in Madrid. There, she met Stanley Sievers, the love of her life. On June 24, 1957, she became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. There, she participated in the Ladies Aid Society and the church choir. She, also, served on the 4-H County Committee for several years and proudly received a Homemakers award from the Sioux City Journal many years ago.

Joan enjoyed quilting for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). In addition, she hand quilted for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She, also, liked sewing, singing, and admiring Barbie dolls. Above all, however, she treasured spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and attending their activities. She will, indeed, be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
