Larry D. Kolpin
April 20, 1931 - June 2, 2017Larry Dean Kolpin, a son of Fred T. and Edna L. (Tigges) Kolpin, was born near Aurelia, Iowa, on April 20, 1931. He attended country school and graduated from Aurelia High School in 1948. On September 3, 1949, he married Betty Nelson in Vermillion, South Dakota. They farmed until they retired in 2009. Larry died on Friday, June 2, 2017, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
A member of the St. John’s Church, rural Peterson [Brooke Twp., Buena Vista County], Larry served on the church board. In addition, he belonged to the Farm Bureau, a bowling league, and a card club.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents, a son, Darwin Craig Kolpin; a sister and her husband, Carolyn Ann and Don Henderson; three brothers-in-law, Don Stohrer, Bill Fox, and Jerry Drzycimski; two sets of brothers- and sisters-in-law, Blair and Doris Watson and Kenneth and Lucille Nelson; and a nephew, Graham Kolpin.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Aurelia; six children: Dana, and his wife, Sherry Kolpin, of West Branch, Iowa; Ryan, and his wife, Lori, and Rick, and his wife, Vicki Kolpin, and Rhonda, and her husband, Don Handy, all of Aurelia; Lynn, and her husband, Tom Suffield, of Cedar Park, Texas; and Van, and his wife, Julie Kolpin, of Eugene, Oregon; twenty-one grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Fredrick G. Kolpin, of Las Cruses, New Mexico; and four sisters-in-law: Norma Fox, of Aurelia, Shirley Drzycimski, of Alta, Doloris, and her husband, Orville Tapper, of Marcus, and Arlene Stohrer, of Homosassa, Florida; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services for Larry D. Kolpin, 86, of Aurelia, will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 10:30 A. M. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church with Lay Pastor David Orthman officiating. Visitation will take place Monday, June 5, 2017, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is overseeing the arrangements.
