Khambong Keokham
May 8, 1974 - April 10, 2017

Our cherished Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Aunt, Khambong Kim Somsanuk Keokham, 43, passed away on Monday, April 10th, 2017.

Khambong was born to Vong and Nee Somsanuk on May 8th, 1974, in Khongsadong, Salavan, Laos. She grew up in Napho Refugee Camp in Thailand. Not until 1990, however, could her family immigrate to the United States. They, first, settled in Memphis, Tennessee.

In 1995, Khambong moved to Modesto, California, where she met her husband, Manh. They married in 1999. A year later in April 2000, she gave birth to her first daughter, Carina. In October of 2000, she completed the requirements for a diploma qualifying her to work as a Lab assistant- EKG Technician/ Phlebotomist. In August of 2005, she gave birth to a second daughter, Kayla. Khambong worked in the labs of various hospitals throughout California for many years before deciding to move her family to Storm Lake, Iowa, in 2007.

In January 2008, Khambong’s passion for cooking led to the opening of her family restaurant, Little Vientiane. In addition, she, really, liked getting her pictures taken. She loved dressing up for photo shoots. She, also, liked singing; she could make anyone smile with her energetic personality.

In December 2016, Khambong fell ill with what she thought to be a sinus infection. On December 23, 2016, she was admitted to the Nebraska Medical Center where she was diagnosed with the HLH virus, producing a rare immunodeficiency. After five months of fighting, Khambong lost her battle with the disease. She is survived by her husband, Manh; her daughters, Carina and Kayla; and her parents, Vong and Nee; as well as by many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be, sincerely, missed by all.

Traditional Buddhist Rites will be held Sunday, April 16, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Saturday, April 15, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
