Mavis Koth-Jacobson
May 9, 1930 - February 27, 2017

A daughter of Clarence and Opal (Chindlund) Combes, Mavis was born on May 9, 1930, in Albert City, Iowa. Raised in Alta, Iowa, she spent most of her young life there and graduated from high school there as well. Next, she worked for a local ice cream parlor and a dry cleaner. In November of 1950, she married Harlin Koth with whom she would have two children. They began their life together in Rembrandt, Iowa, but moved to Rosemount, Minnesota, in 1960.

For twenty-six years, Mavis worked as a school secretary at the Rosemount Elementary School. Regrettably, Harlin passed away in November of 1988. Some nine years later, in February of 1996, she married Loren Jacobson. They, then, moved to Dundas, Minnesota, after she retired.

The sweetest lady, she drew many to her by her kind, loving, and gracious ways. She kept an immaculate house and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. Moreover, she passed on her love of baking to her grandchildren who entered food competitions at the Dakota County Fair, winning several awards including a Grand Champion award.

Mavis passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017, at the age of 86 at the Lee County Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida, while on vacation visiting family. She is survived by her husband, Loren, of Dundas, Minnesota, her daughter, Rebecca Koth, and her son, Brent (Tami) Koth, all of Eagan, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Morgan (Joren) Skugrud, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Brandon Koth, of Las Vegas, Nevada; her stepchildren, Lorene (Wayne) Thom, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kathy (Dan) Andreasen, of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Sharla (Mark) Fillhouer, of Prior Lake, Minnesota; her step grandchildren, Andrew and Derek Thom; Danielle and Jacob Andreasen; and Scott, Amy and Kate Fillhouer; two step great grandchildren; and her sister, Doris (Cliff) Schmidt, of Storm Lake, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harlin; her parents; and two brothers, Don and Tom.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield with the Reverend David Weeks officiating. Visitation will take place Sunday, March 5, 2017, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at the Rosemount Cemetery. Arrangements by the Bierman Funeral Home.
