Kenneth W. Kinney
June 16, 1920 - June 18, 2012

Kenneth Warren Kinney, a son of Warren and Mary (Witzke) Kinney, was born on June 16, 1920, on the family farm southeast of Newell. After graduating from Newell High School, he served in the US Army military police at Fort Des Moines during World War II. On September 29, 1945, Kenneth married Trudy Barnes, and to their union, two daughters were born, Sandra and Candace. Trudy died on March 3, 1973.

Kenneth spent his entire working life on the family farm which, eventually, achieved Century Farm status. He raised cattle, hogs, and grain. He faithfully attended his daughters’ school events regardless of the season. Moreover, he maintained a keen interest in civic activities, serving on the Newell Elevator Board and the First Congregational Church Board at different times as well as participating in other community events. Besides the First Congregational Church, he, also, belonged to the Newell Legion. He enjoyed farming every day before retiring as well as following the New York Yankees and visiting with his many friends. On June 14, 1978, he married Marian (Pedersen) Ellrich, at the Newell Congregational Church.

Kenneth died on Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Trudy; his brother; Norman Kinney; and his sister, Lenore Werner. He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Marian, of Sac City; his two daughters, Sandra, and her husband, Kent Renegar, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Candace Chesney, of Des Moines, Iowa; three step-sons, Tom, and his wife, Sharon Ellrich, of Ames. Iowa, Steven Ellrich, of Des Moines, Iowa, and David, and his wife, Marlene Ellrich, of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Smith, of Stoutland, Missouri, Betty, and husband, Melvin Redig, of Storm Lake, and Donna Pedersen, of Rock Valley, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Jim Pedersen; of Sierra Vista, Arizona; as well as by nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services for Kenneth W. Kinney, 92, of Sac City, formerly of Newell, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the First Congregational Church in Newell with Pastor Greg Baskerville officiating. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. with the family present at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church in Newell. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is overseeing the arrangements.
