June 1, 1948 ~ February 16, 2017 (age 68)Larry Barglof, age 68, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Larry Gail Barglof, a son of Erwin and Marlyn (Myers) Barglof, was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on June 1, 1948. He grew up in Linn Grove and graduated from Sioux Valley High School in Linn Grove. Next, he attended the DeVry Institute in Chicago.
On December 29, 1967, Larry married Vicki Clapp in Linn Grove, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children: Brett, Beth, and Jennifer. For the two years following their wedding, Larry and Vicki lived in Hiawatha, Iowa, where Larry worked for Rockwell-Collins. In April of 1970, they moved to the family farm near Linn Grove where Larry farmed with his father and assisted in the television and radio business. In addition, he was employed as a substitute rural mail carrier for over twenty years. Moreover, both he and Vicki owned the Valley Market for several years.
In years past, Larry had served on the Board of Directors of the REC and as an elder for many years at the Riverside Presbyterian Church. When not farming, he enjoyed woodworking and restoring antiques. Very passionate about his personal relationship with Christ, he had a gift for sharing his faith with others, leading them to Christ, and disciplining them in their walk with the Lord.
Larry’s life will always be celebrated and cherished by his family which includes Vicki, his wife of forty-nine years of Linn Grove, Iowa; his children: Brett (Carrie) Barglof, of Cherokee, Iowa, Beth (Christopher) Low, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jennifer (Scot) Hansen, of Urbandale, Iowa; his grandchildren: Bennett Barglof, of Aurelia, Iowa, Brenten Barglof, of Ankeny, Iowa, Casey and “Soon to arrive Baby Girl” Low, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Liam and Eden Hansen, of Des Moines, Iowa; his great grandchild, Hunter Barglof, of Aurelia, Iowa; his mother, Marlyn Barglof, of Spencer, Iowa; his sisters: Linda (Marc) Courtney, of Stewartsville, Missouri, Betty (Charles) Hyde, of Peterson, Iowa, and Cheryl Barglof, of St. Charles, Missouri; and his sister-in-law, Cindy Wolf, of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; as well as by nieces, nephews, other loved ones, and many friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Erwin Barglof; his father- and mother-in-law, Dwight and Mary Clapp; his brother-in-law, Mike Clapp; and sister- and brother-in-law: Susan and Bill Maxwell.
May the Lord continued to be honored and glorified through the life and testimony of Larry Gail Barglof.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Visitation will take place Sunday, February 19, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is overseeing the arrangements.
