Jason "Meathead" Sammons
December 7, 1973 - January 15, 2017

Jason "Meathead" Sammons, age 43, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 15, 2017, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Jason Ralph "Meathead" Sammons was born on December 7, 1973, in Sioux City, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed in the eighth grade at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Jason attended elementary school at Willow and Aurelia before transferring to Storm Lake where he graduated in 1992. On August 6, 1999, he married Jennifer Allen in Cherokee, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with one daughter, Ashlee Connie K. Sammons.

Over the years, Jason had the opportunity to work at a variety of businesses in the area. He spent several years, for example, working at the Villager, RJ Thomas Manufacturing, Bargloff's, Ranco, and DFS. Most recently, however, he worked for Hy-Vee as a truck driver. Those that knew him knew that he had found a job that he loved. Jason was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake.

“Meathead,” as his many friends knew him, although others may have known him as “Meaters,” “Meat,” or “Meatball,” will be remembered for his fun loving, one-of-a-kind personality. Whether watching the Nebraska Huskers or any kind of racing event, he enjoyed having a good time. He loved fishing, gardening, and grilling. He enjoyed the outdoors and always found a project to keep him busy. He loved to tell stories and to laugh. He made the most of life and liked to make others smile, especially Jennifer and Ashlee. Most of all, however, Jason was a loving and devoted husband and father. He will be, deeply, missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jennifer Sammons, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his daughter, Ashlee Sammons, also of Storm Lake, Iowa; his mother, Kathy (Scott) Schwaller, of Lakeside, Iowa; his brother, Scott (Barb) Sammons, of Ankeny, Iowa; his sister, Renae Schwaller, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandmother, Marcella Cline, of Cherokee, Iowa; his father-in-law, Robert (Ruth) Allen, of Aurelia, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Heidi (Ryan) Woltman, of Cherokee, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Jason was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Cline; his uncle, David Cline; and his mother-in-law, Connie Allen.

Memorial services will be held Monday, January 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at a later date. Visitation will take place Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a memorial fund established at the MetaBank in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is overseeing the arrangements.
